Precision Trucks

About the Project

Creating these hangers was a monumental undertaking at the time. The modeling, analysis, prototyping, iterative design, process planning, and machining of the hangers and associated tooling was all done in 70 days. During this time I was also finishing the design of and fabricating all necessary components for the automated insert placement system. That being said, a tremendous amount of work was put into this project. While the initial intent of the project was to produce base plates and axles to match the hangers, I underestimated the time required to produce the trucks. Because of this underestimation, the baseplates and axles were not completed. However, thanks to this hitch in my planning I learned some very important lessons about the realities of CNC machining, the associated time requirements, and the realities of project planning. In addition to this lesson, I learned a considerable amount about NC programming, tool design, machining parameters, material selection, tool selection, offsets, process planning, and other aspects manufacturing using CNC systems. All things considered, through my failures and triumphs I came out with a product I am excited about, as well as tooling for the product and validated code for HAAS VF series machines.
